IAC member of honour

Toni Cumella was selected as IAC member of Honour 2016. His diploma was given by Jacques Kaufmann the IAC president, during the awards ceremony in the cultural center CaixaForum on the 14th September 2016.

Toni Cumella (Barcelona, 1951) is a ceramist whose works have been integrated in buildings throughout the world by such notable architects as Enric Miralles, Alejandro Zaera-Polo, Renzo Piano and Jean Nouvel.

Many of his collaborations are synonymous with the image of Barcelona and are part of the Sagrada Familia, Casa Batlló and Parc Güell, all built by the architect Antoni Gaudí. Son of the ceramicist Antoni Cumella, Toni studied industrial engineering at Barcelona University before dedicating himself entirely to ceramics in 1970. After the death of his father in 1985, Cumella redirected the focus of the studio Ceramica Cumella to the development of architectural projects and large-scale artworks. Between 1989 and 1992 the studio undertook its first two major architectural commissions: the restoration of Gaudi’s Casa Batlló and Gaudi’s Parc Güell, which firmly established Ceramica Cumella as a centre of expertise in the field.
